When I first found my yoga practice in 1998, I was a freshman in college studying geology. I was a pretty physically active young adult, but what I found in that small church basement launched me into a very different life than the one I had planned.
There, surrounded by several kind community members wearing their street clothes and practicing on a carpet, I explored what it meant to feel embodied in ways I hadn’t yet experienced, and I couldn’t get enough. Shortly after moving to Asheville in 2003, I tried an Iyengar Yoga class and found something I felt compelled to share with anyone who would listen.
After sixteen years of faithful practice, I completed teacher training with Lillah Schwartz and began teaching in 2014 at the YWCA. I continued my studies with Ryan Conrad and Cindy Dollar at One Center Yoga. In 2019, I traveled to the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India, to study with Prashant Iyengar, Abhijata Iyengar, and Raya Uma Datta. In 2022, I became a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT) under the mentorship of Randy Loftis, the owner of Iyengar Yoga Asheville. My practice continues to deepen through weekly classes with Mary Obendorfer, Eddy Marks, and Lois Steinberg.
I feel honored and eager to share more than twenty years of accumulated study and knowledge. To be of service as a conduit of the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar is an exceptional privilege, and one I don’t take lightly.
My students are some of my greatest teachers. I love working with individuals who are interested in exploring yoga with openness and curiosity. My students are often seeking a deeper connection with themselves and earnest in their pursuit of learning more about a practice that can support all aspects of their inner and outer lives.
When I’m not teaching, I work with words and writers as a freelance editor. I recharge by spending time outside next to water wandering on foot, mountain bike, or paddleboard. I also enjoy cooking straight from my raised-bed garden and sharing food and laughter with friends.
